Domestic Cat Lifesize Mount by DeerfishTaxidermy Domestic Cat Lifesize Mount by DeerfishTaxidermy
This is the finished cat mount that I have done recently. I quite like how it turned out, though I am excited to do more feline animals in the future. Of course I want to improve and I am excited how the next cat will turn out. :w00t:

I would like to sell this mount. But because it's a domestic cat it's not allowed to sell it to every country.
I made a quick research and I think US is out completely.
The article said It's prohibited to import ANY kind of dog or cat fur or merchandise/items that contain parts or full furs of dogs and cats.

I didn't find anything for Europe though. Domestic cats are not a protected/endangered species.
If you're interested and know your country laws please contact me.

If anybody of you in general knows about importing domestic cats anywhere you can of course comment :aww:

I can tell you it's legal as far as Canadians importing it. Government here refuses to ban the sale of cat and dog fur because "it might hurt the sealing industry"... however that works. :P

Hm, I didn't read anything about Canada. I'm not really comfortable with sending it overseas, I think I'll stick with Europe. Don't want to get anywhere trouble :aww:

Fair enough. If you want more info on Canada and laws: " In Canada, in 2006, a private member's bill was proposed to amend the Hazardous Products Act by adding cat and dog fur to the list of products prohibited from import. However, the bill was dissolved along with Parliament that year, which means it is still perfectly legal to import and sell cat and dog fur in Canada." - www.winnipeghumanesociety.ca/f… It's an active campaign to ban trade. However with the current government the new proposed bill will never pass. They value money over animal welfare. You may have a hard time selling within Europe. Italy, France, Denmark, Greece, Belgium, Switzerland, the USA and Australia have bans on import, and as of January 1, 2009 the European Union prohibits all trade in cat and dog fur.

The bans for the European Union are only for the fur of dogs and cats because it's not allowed to use them for garment products. But as a mount it's perfectly fine to sell it here.
It's not like it needs to go immediately, I can wait until someone is interested :aww:

You did a great job! Cats are hard! The only thing I can see wrong is that he's not looking at the toy, but maybe something in the distance caught his eye?
I'd love to have domestic mounts, guess I'll only be able to use my cats that pass *sighs*

Yeah I didn't really think that through and just pointed the eyes straight forward. He should be looking at the paw/toy. Well, everyone learns from tge mistakes. Next time I'll think about that from the beginning :) I notices this too, just the moment I took the pictures ^^;

In the US its illegal. Don't want to risk it or cause trouble for the person buying either.
Nice job though :)

Vorsicht!

its fine to sell cat and dog mounts. I was speaking to some well known taxidermist in the UK and they have all told me that its ok to sell and buy dog and cat mounts. Just the selling of the fur is prohibited that is all. So its ok to sell them in the EU. Not sure about america but its probably not a good idea to ship it there. Also you would need an import/export license and its a hassle haha

But only the fur right? If it's a mount it's different again :faint: because the mount is a finished product and can't be used for garment products anymore. I'm confused lol 8D

Selling domestic pet mounts & bones is A-OK.
Its selling just the fur that's illegal.

But for US it's all things that contain parts of domestic cat or dog fur.
Do you mean for Europe? :-?

If you want me to confirm that I can head over to T.net and ask the mods there, otherwise I think it's the same there as it is here; Mounts/Bones are fine, fur is not.

I know for sure that it's legal in Europe to sell mounts/bones, but in most places, not the fur.

But the mount IS the fur...just filled with something :-? So I don't understand the difference between 'the pelt' and 'a mount made of the pelt' :0

I just did some asking around with some guys on T.net and it turns out Mounts and Pelts are illegal to sell in USA, bones are fine tho. o_0

Honestly this has come as a surprise to me as I always thought mounts were fine in USA. :O You learn something new every day! ^^;

If I can jump in here real quick!
I can't know for sure, but I think "just the fur" may be to stop the use of cat and dog fur for the use of trimming garments like coats and mittens. I know that in Canada it is still legal to import dog and cat fur, so I'm a bit iffy about the coats I chose to buy, especially if it doesn't list the type of fur, and says it's made in China or something... >.>
Not sure if that's the only reason, but I think it's a part of it :)
